Celebrating Nurse Practitioner Week 2013

November 10-16 marks the annual Nurse Practitioner Celebration week to spread awareness on the importance of these providers in our demanding healthcare industry. Both Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants have been recognized in the news for being a positive solution to the primary care shortage and this week is meant to highlight those providers stepping forward in healthcare.

How to celebrate? We’ve gathered a handful of ways to celebrate this week and help spread awareness. Pick your favorites and help promote Nurse Practitioner Week!

Gather Support for Legislative Wins

The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) has created a theme for this year: “The Nurse Practitioner, Your Partner in Health.” This theme defines the importance of both the Nurse Practitioner and the community in supporting what they do. Advance Healthcare Network for NPs & PAs recently posted a few highlights from the legislative wins we saw this past year for Nurse Practitioners. With your support, we can be sure to see another victorious year in 2014.

Team Appreciation Break

Take 30 minutes in the morning for a breakfast or for an afternoon snack at your facility to acknowledge the Nurse Practitioners on your team. There can be a rotation so that everyone has a chance to come and grab an appreciation snack. This is a simple, but profound way to show the NPs on your staff that they are appreciated.

Spreading the Word

This week is a great time to make posters at your facility to let people know what this week represents and the importance it holds. You can download and print our poster to hang up at your facility. Contact your local newspaper or healthcare blog to submit an article or post about what this week really means and the value of Nurse Practitioners on the healthcare team.

AANP Resource Guide

The NP Week Resource Guide provided by AANP covers all you need to promote this week in your community. It is filled with a sample news release, sample proclamation, community activity ideas, partnership activities, an NP fact sheet, and more.

We’d love to hear how your facility is recognizing this important week. Let us know and thank you to all of the Nurse Practitioners out there serving and providing for us!
